​    WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS:

We recruit and utilize volunteers and resources (funding and items) to help others who have crucial needs in Morgan County. 

  • We not only recruit volunteers for our own organizations projects, but we recruit and manage hundreds of volunteers for other non-profits’ projects and fundraisers, such as VFW, U.W. Day of Caring, Dragon Boat Races, Carnegie Carnival, Riverfest, DNOW, Mosaic, etc.. 
  • This past year we served the elderly and disabled by securing funding and utilizing volunteers to build wheelchair ramps and complete small home repairs. 
  • We also supplied families with heating and cooling. This process is detrimental to their health due to a condition such as, COPD, low-income, and anyone 65 years or older. 
  • In 2019 we helped feed over 400 families with Meals for Morgan and over 1,000 with Barrels of Love.
  •  We recruit and manage volunteers and their donations for Christmas assistance to over 1,617 children and youth through Toys for Tots, Teen Christmas Assistance, and Holiday Hope Chests and Teen Foster Christmas.
  •  We are the certifying organization and presenter of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards in all schools within Morgan County. This year we gave out 127 awards with 23,245 hours of Volunteer Service hours from Morgan County youth.  
  • In times of disaster (such as tornado or nuclear disasters), the Volunteer Center becomes the onsite Volunteer Reception Center, working closely with the EMA. 
  • The COVID-19 National Disaster was new territory for the organization. We were able to donate 450 masks and give food to 250 unemployed families. For 2020 we have continued our efforts in helping the community with meals and basic household needs.​

HOW VOLUNTEERING IMPACTS YOUTH

An estimated 15.5 million youth – or 55 percent of youth ages 12 to 18 – participate in volunteer activities; the teen volunteering rate is nearly twice the adult volunteering rate of 29 percent. Youth contribute more than 1.3 billion hours of community service each year. The typical youth volunteer contributes 29 hours per year, while adult volunteers typically serve 52 hours per year. 39 percent of teen volunteers are “regular” volunteers, defined as those who volunteer at least 12 weeks per year. That compares with 55 percent of adult volunteers who can be classified as” regular” volunteers.

In addition to long-term community improvement, youth volunteers realize lifelong impact through- promotion of a healthy lifestyle, empathy and good choices and making good choices. It also improves physical and mental health, lower rates of depression, and greater life satisfaction.
