This holiday season, we are asking for your support for two important, and life-saving projects.
As a Community Action Agency (CAA), Community Teamwork is focused on addressing the causes and conditions of poverty, one of which is alleviating homelessness. It is estimated that there are currently more than 100 unsheltered individuals who literally are sleeping on the streets.
A leader in addressing the homeless issue in our community, Community Teamwork continues to find ways to provide housing, shelter and services to those in need. We know that development of new housing sites is critical to address the needs of those individuals who find themselves without a safe, clean and stable place to call home.
We are a Housing First proponent and understand that over 300 new units of housing in the City of Lowell are necessary to address the needs of the unsheltered population.
Help us reach our goal of creating 300 low threshold housing!
Of the 580,000 people in homeless shelters and on the streets around America, roughly 38 % are women. Co-ed congregate shelters are not usually women-focused, and many women experiencing homelessness who are the victims of domestic abuse or trauma refuse to enter traditional shelters. As a result, they often spend their nights in places not fit for human habitation.
To serve this often-overlooked population, Community Teamwork is working to open a 60-bed shelter dedicated to women. We have acquired a property in Lowell for which there are significant purchase and renovation costs. We are excited about this new opportunity to serve the women in our community who are housing insecure and need a second chance.
YOU can make a difference through your support of Community Teamwork. Below are examples of how your donations can help us reduce poverty and homelessness in our region.
Donations of $1,000+ may be eligible for Massachusetts Community Investment Tax Credits (CITC). Please contact Margot Regan at maregan@commteam.org to learn more about this program.
