FAQ – A Home For The Holidays

How much are tickets?

Tickets are $50 each.

How many tickets can I get?

There is no limit.

Where can I buy a ticket?

Tickets will be available for ONLINE PURCHASE ONLY.  Tickets may be purchased at www.HBAHomeForTheHolidays.org. You must provide all required information to be eligible to enter and win.

I'm not comfortable purchasing online.  Is there another option?

You can call the HBA of Greater Cleveland at 216-447-8700 to order tickets. 

Can I purchase a ticket as a GIFT?

Yes, you would put their name in the RECOGNITION NAME field.

What are the taxes on the house, and what do I have to do if I win it?

The IRS has adopted the position that the $50 ticket price is not deductible as a charitable donation for Federal income tax purposes. The IRS requires that taxes on prizes valued greater than $5,000 must be paid upon acceptance and before HBACEF & MAW OKI may deliver the prize to the winner. Winners are encouraged to consult a tax professional. The taxes on the home are the responsibility of the winner. The IRS requires HBACEF & MAW OKI to collect the taxes before the transfer of property. Winners will be issued 1099s for the fair market or appraised value of the prizes they win. Winners should consult with their CPA as to specifics.

If I win one of the other prizes, can I also win the Home For The Holidays home?

The winning ticket for each prize will be selected by a random drawing on a weekly basis starting in November or December based on the number of donated prizes. HBACEF and MAW OKI will select the name of potential winners of the prizes in a random drawing from all eligible raffle tickets. All tickets have an equal chance to win. Ticket purchasers need not be present to win.

Who is eligible to get tickets and win?

To be eligible to purchase a ticket, you must be a United States legal resident and at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction of residence, whichever is older as of the date of entry. The following persons are not eligible to purchase tickets: Employees of the Home Builders Association of Greater Cleveland or The HBA Charitable and Education Foundation; Employees of Make-A-Wish, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana.

What are the odds of winning?

The odds of winning a prize depends on the number of valid raffle tickets sold. The chances of winning are based on the number of tickets sold.

Do I have to be present to win?

No, you don't have to be present to win or have your ticket confirmation with you. Winners will be announced by name, not ticket number.

How do I know if I won?

We'll call you on the day of the drawing. We'll also send you a Winner Notification Agreement, which will be sent by certified mail, return receipt U.S. Mail to the address provided by that winner at the time of ticket reservation. Each winner will have 7 days from the date of his/her receipt of the Winner Notification Agreement to accept the prize by executing and returning the Winner Notification Agreement and accept the prize "as is".

May I claim my ticket as a tax deduction?

HBACEF & MAW OKI A Home For The Holidays tickets are not tax-deductible. When you get a ticket, you're signing up for a chance to win in a raffle.

How much of the proceeds actually go to HBACEF & MAW OKI?

All of the net proceeds go directly to HBACEF & MAW OKI and their missions.

Can I tour the home?

Due to COVID, in-person home tours have currently been put on hold.  We are monitoring the guidelines and want to ensure we can SAFELY open the home.  We apologize for any inconvenience, but SAFETY is our top priority.

Where is the home located?

The $495,000 model home is being built by Parkview Homes of Strongsville and is located in the Siedel’s Landing subdivision of Strongsville. 

Does the home come furnished?

The Timan's Window Treatments and kitchen appliances will remain in home.  All other furnishings are not included. 

Is there a cash option if I win?

If the Minimum Required Tickets are sold prior to the drawing intended to be held on December 31, 2020, the Grand Prize Winner will be awarded the option of selecting the Home as the Grand Prize (Option 1) or “Full Prize Money” in the amount of $200,000 (Option 2).

The selection of the Home as the Grand Prize is subject to the terms and conditions stated herein, the terms and conditions of the Parkview Homes Purchase Agreement (the “Agreement”) by and between Parkview and HBACEF and the HBA Warranty mentioned in the Agreement.  The Agreement and HBA Warranty are available to any person purchasing an Event Ticket for inspection at the offices the HBA of Greater Cleveland, MAW OKI, Home for the Holidays Giveaway media and prize sponsors; Home for the Holidays Giveaway Steering Committee; the Holidays Giveaway builders and developers; Home for the Holidays Giveaway ticket sellers; and Home for the Holidays Giveaway auditors and accountants.

If the Minimum Required Tickets are not sold prior to the drawing intended to be held on December 31, 2020, the Grand Prize Winner be awarded a portion of Option 2 (the “Prize Money”) as determined multiplying the Full Prize Money by a fraction of which the actual number of tickets sold is the numerator and 20,000 as the denominator.
