Normally in the spring, we host the Scribbles to Novels gala to lift up the importance of early learning, and celebrate your dedication to the young children in underserved communities across Massachusetts. But this year, nothing is normal. Since March, early education centers have been closed and educators and families have been facing the unexpected, unprecedented task of digital, at-home learning. Jumpstart quickly pivoted to provide free, high-quality early learning tools and resources to educators and families remotely.
As we look ahead, we face many uncertainties around back-to-school, reopening plans, and what classrooms may look like in the fall. Children and families in underserved communities - particularly underserved communities of color - will feel the impacts of this uncertainty most deeply, especially on the heels of the extended out-of-school time caused by COVID-19 and the civil unrest that is rippling through our communities. The opportunity gap is actively widening for the 2,000 preschool children Jumpstart serves each year in Massachusetts.
However, even in these difficult times, we are still hopeful – because of you.
With your help, we can develop new systems and strategies to ensure that college students and children continue to build caring, impactful relationships this year, whether they happen in-person or virtually. Your giving will create new resources to support strapped teachers, provide quality materials for families to use in their homes, and champion equitable education and child-care advocacy efforts.
This year, when the need is unusually great, your support is even more essential than ever. Thank you for everything you do for children, college students, and communities across Massachusetts!
