Ray Benson is the front man and founder of the world-renowned Western swing band Asleep at the Wheel. For fifty plus years, Ray has been the driving force behind “The Wheel” and has overseen the release of more than 25 albums, countless tours, and has won 10 GRAMMY™ Awards. 2009’s release of “Willie & The Wheel” with collaborator Willie Nelson garnered another Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album, and 2015’s “Still the King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys” won a Grammy for Best Recording Package. At the event, Ray shared his personal connection to stroke and aphasia and perform "A Little Piece", a song from his new album.

Austin Speech Labs is a remarkable nonprofit organization that supports stroke survivors and their loved ones in rebuilding their lives by providing intensive, affordable and innovative speech and cognitive therapy. 

In 2008, through the leadership of two speech-language pathologists, Austin Speech Labs opened its doors to a world of stroke survivors who had the potential to improve their speech but simply did not have the funds or insurance coverage to continue with hospital services. 

Challenging the traditional belief that survivors have a small window of time to recover after a stroke, Austin Speech Labs welcomed anyone who had suffered a stroke and had hope for a better life. In doing this, Austin Speech Labs has built a community of courageous survivors, relentless caregivers, dedicated volunteers and compassionate health care providers. The Austin Speech Labs' community envisions a world where stroke survivors have access to the therapy they need to thrive at home, at work, and in the community.
