About YWRC Year End Giving

Are you ready to overwhelm the world with good?

Join us Tuesday, December 1st for a global day of unity and giving. Together we heal. Together we empower. Together we give.

Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. There are a variety of ways you can show your generosity during GivingTuesday, whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill or making a donation. Everyone has something to give and EVERY act of generosity counts.

It is an increasingly difficult time for our participants and we need YOUR help.

Many were already facing challenging home lives, tight family budgets, and anxiety or depression before COVID-19. We are working hard to continue providing them with critical resources and programming in new, safe ways. YOU can make it possible for local girls to have their basic needs met, to be empowered to advocate for themselves, and to have a safe space to be seen by making a tax deductible year end donation today.

ALL OF THIS is made possible because of donors like YOU:

  • 18 year old Sofia participated in our high school groups and recognized that she needed a trusted adult to speak to about her toxic partner. Due to the trust and relationships built through her participating in our after-school high school empowerment group, she felt confident to seek out support.

  • 17 year old Maggie became pregnant and was getting ready to drop out of high school when she found the Young Women’s Resource Center. She started attending our Child Birth Education classes, connected with other young moms and felt empowered to stay in school with the support of the YWRC.

  • Sam, 13 years old, had been struggling for quite some time in knowing how to express their identity and to be accepted for who they are. They were able to find others that related and encouraged them to continue to stay true to themselves.

  • Nora, at one year old, is able to have diapers and formula because her mother is attending Parenting Life Skills group at the YWRC and is able to receive donations of basic need items to make ends meet.

Bonus: YOUR donation will go even further this year with a generous matching gift!

As life for young women becomes increasingly challenging, we need YOUR support. Thank YOU for the value you place on protecting the safety, health and potential of girls and young women in our community.

Why YOUR Support Matters

YOUR support will have a significant, positive impact on the girls and young women we serve throughout Greater Des Moines.

Did you know...

  • Girls entering middle school experience a 50% decline in self-esteem, impacting their decisions about what they can achieve.
  • 70% + of the girls and young women we serve live below the poverty line.
  • 78% of YWRC clients have experienced at least one youth trauma. The state average is only 56%.
  • How we help...

  • Our curriculum is based on research and ensures our clients are increasing their resiliency through social connections, self-esteem, managing emotions and mastering abilities.
  • It is hard to focus on goals if you are lacking basic care items and are food-insecure. The YWRC eliminates this barrier to success by providing essential hygiene products, as well as access to our food pantry.
  • Trauma experienced in youth has negative later-in-life health effects. We counteract this by building resiliency and coping skills, leading to a healthier future. 81% of all of our clients increased their resiliency last year.
