The foundation of the United Way is to mobilize the caring power of Indiana County. An organization like the United Way is in a uniquely different position where they were challenged to continue meeting the needs around us, while being called to respond to the additional community needs caused by the COVID crisis.
It was truly inspiring to watch the way the United Way stepped up to help solve problems this year. They established an Emergency Relief Fund which put $87,000 into the hands of those who lost employment due to COVID. They also brought schools and nonprofits together to address food security for school children, and took over financial management of a meal delivery program for seniors.
These projects were front and center while continuing support to our partner agencies, who adapted to provide essential services to address addiction, domestic violence, and physical and mental health for children. These needs don't go away in times of crisis, in fact, they often become amplified.
This year's fundraising campaign is unique in that we know there is so much work to do during a challenging time, but we know that TOGETHER we have the means and strength to do it.
Your donations are needed now more than ever. We ask that you join us in moving forward together, supporting one another because, ultimately, we are in this together. Let us help make Indiana County #CommunityStronger!
We are excited to kick off the 2021 United Way Campaign! First, we want to pause for a moment to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the United Way of Indiana County. Over the past 90 years, the United Way of Indiana County has been improving lives in our community andmaking it a better place to live, work, and prosper.
Moving through 2021, we also want to recognize how we have grown to adapt to the ever-changing environment, yet, many around us are still struggling to make ends meet. Our efforts meet those needs and continue to invest in the building blocks for a healthy life that will provide individuals, families, and children with the support they need to thrive.
We would like to celebrate a brighter future by improving lives and strengthening children and families. Our community can achieve this by meeting basic needs and providing education and financial stability resources to gain and maintain good health.
A wise person once said, "Even the smallest act of caring for another person is like a drop of water - it ripples throughout the entire pond."
The United Way of Indiana County has been active in the county for 90 years; and although a lot has changed over that time, the one thing that hasn't is the vision for a community where people thrive, live healthy lives, and everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. The organization has evolved from collecting shoes, clothing, and food to mobilizing community resources to help strengthen and improve the lives of our neighbors. The United Way's mission continues to be a beacon of hope for those in need; serving individuals, families, and children by supporting the building blocks to a healtheir life and stronger community.
"What you subscribe is not a gift, it is an investment; it will always bear dividends in the form of better manhood and better womanhood, a cleaner, stronger and more efficient citizenship; a more desirable community in which to work and live and play."
- Dr. Charles Foster, Campaign Chairman, Indiana Community Chest Association 1931-1932
Our philosophy is that together, UNITED, we can accomplish more than any one person or single agency could alone. The United Way understands that the challenges our community faces can seem overwhelming. But change is possible when we pool our resources, our expertise and our effort, and focus on the issues that matter most, to help those who need it the most, in ways that achieve the greatest impact.
Thank you for our shared commitment to improving the health, education & financial stability of our community!
The United Way of Indiana County is committed to improving the health, education & financial stability of our community. We envision a community where people thrive, live healthy lives, and everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
