Our Students

Founded in 1938, the Bronx High School of Science has earned a worldwide reputation as one of the finest public secondary schools in the country. In 2020, Newsweek's rankings of the top 5,000 STEM high schools in the United States, both public and private, cited Bronx Science as the 4th best STEM school in the nation.

Bronx Science attracts intellectually gifted students who are culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse. Approximately 60% of the students are children of immigrants. More than 50% do not speak English at home, representing 60 different languages. Our students hail from all 5 boroughs of New York City.

Our students are achievers across nearly all academic and extracurricular competitions. They have distinguished themselves as National Merit Scholars, Regeneron Science Scholars and Finalist, and Scholastic Art & Writing Medalists, to name a few. Collectively, the Speech and Debate Team consistently ranks as one of the top teams in the country.

Many of our students are future scientists and mathematicians, but all embrace the study of the liberal arts. They are citizens of the world eager to contribute to their society.

Our Alumni

Bronx Science alumni include eight Nobel Prize winners, seven in Physics, and eight Pulitzer Prize winners in journalism. Our graduates represent achievement in virtually every field. They are authors, lawyers, educators, artists, entertainers, philanthropists, and leaders in business and government.

Our alumni are ardent supporters of Bronx Science and are eager to give back to the school. They are devoted to maximizing their impact on the current and future students through active engagement. They are resources for students during the college application process and offer mentoring workshops and programs in various career fields through programs such as the Bronx Science Entrepreneur Lab. When a student graduates from Bronx Science, they gain a lifetime membership to this robust network of alumni.

Stanley Manne, Bronx Science Class of 1952, has donated, what we believe, to be the largest donation to a public school in US history. His donation will transform the northwest Bronx into a hub of student scientific research. We are honored to receive the gift and excited about building The Stanley Manne Science Institute together with our 7 partner schools in the Bronx. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, November 15, 2022.
