About Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday, the international day of philanthropy, has been a success in bringing transformational change to schools and non-profits around the world through the generosity of their benefactors.

Support the Mount on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, by making a gift to the Mount Fund.  A portion of the proceeds from this year’s #GivingTuesday will help to fund Project Cilia, the Mount’s plan to create a school environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of all students through innovative and meaningful programmatic initiatives in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Be a part of helping to move the Mount forward in the spirit of unity and reconciliation, part of the charism of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.  Make a gift to the Mount Fund on December 1st and post on social media using the hashtag #MSJAgivesback.  You’ll be setting the example for others to follow your generosity.  Remember, all gifts, regardless of size, are critically important to bringing these initiatives to the Mount community.

Project Cilia

Project Cilia is the Mount's plan to create a school environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of all students. Project Cilia will be an ongoing part of the Mount’s culture, providing innovative and meaningful change in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We have listened to the concerns and heard the thoughtful comments of many of our alumnae and current students. We need to move forward and affect change together. Your support for the Giving Tuesday event will help us enhance this effort.

Project Cilia references “reconciliation,” a word deeply rooted in the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Cilia, the foundation of the word reconciliation, means “eyelash.” Sister underscored that she would stand eyelash to eyelash with alumnae of color to acknowledge and apologize for any instances of racism that they have experienced in the past at the Mount and call upon the entire Mount community to stand face to face in unified intolerance for racial injustice.

While a long-term effort that will unfold over several years, Project Cilia includes short-term initiatives that will be executed within the 2020-2021 school year. A number of these suggestions were made during four in-person and virtual listening sessions held in the summer of 2020 and attended by hundreds of alumnae of color and their allies.
