Every three years, Wilder Research and its partners conduct a statewide study to better understand the top reasons Minnesotans are homeless and barriers to obtaining and maintaining safe and stable housing.

The Minnesota Homeless Study is supported through a combination of government, foundation, and corporate grants, contracts, and contributions. This year, we’re inviting individual donors to join the effort, with a goal of raising $25,000 by June 30, 2021.

How Your Gift Goes to Work Today:

In 2021, your gift will help us plan and implement a massive effort scheduled to take place on October 28, 2021 to conduct thousands of surveys with people staying in shelters, outside, or other places not meant for habitation.

Your gift has long-term impact on homelessness in Minnesota by allowing the Homeless Study to:

• Document the ways that the COVID-19 pandemic is particularly dangerous for homeless people in our community.
• Illuminate disparities among people experiencing homelessness and study specific populations (e.g. older adults, youth, LGBTQ community, veterans, Native Americans living on reservations), so disparities can be addressed.
• Identify trends in homelessness to help policymakers, service providers, and the public working to eliminate homelessness in Minnesota.

• Provide stipends to homeless individuals who participate in interviews and stipends for participating tribes in the Reservation Study;
• Recruit and train volunteers to conduct the Study;
• Conduct outreach with partner organizations;
• Collaborate with partner organizations to collect data and prepare;
• Develop the research tools used for the Study and enter, clean, and analyze data; and
• Report Homeless Study data and disseminate results.
