About 2021 RHS Hurtado Scholars Program Giving Challenge

Susan and Patrick ’68 Brosnahan (Plano, Texas), generous supporters of Catholic causes, challenge donors to make an impact at Rockhurst High School through the Hurtado Challenge. This is a dollar-for-dollar match of every Hurtado Scholars Program donation, up to $50,000, made before the annual Fire That Kindles Other Fires Evening on July 23. Pat reflected, “Mom and dad worked very hard, sacrificed a great deal, and struggled to make ends meet to send me and my two brothers to Rockhurst High School. This meant so much for our family. The values I learned from my parents, reinforced by the Jesuits and lay teachers, became a foundation for how to live my life.”

Pat and Susan are role models for a value-based way of living to their five children, 18 grandchildren, as well as family and friends. They emphasize a strong belief in Catholic education as a reason for this Challenge. The Hurtado Scholars Program builds future generations of “men for others” who will be leaders that take-on a Christ-like way of proceeding for society. “What a person does in life shows what he or she cares about,” Pat concluded. “Acts of charity and kindness must be what defines us here on earth and before God.” Rockhurst High School’s President, David Laughlin, invites donors to match the generosity of the Brosnahan family.

“I have come to learn that over many, many years, very quietly and with humility, Pat and Susan have focused on the dignity of the human person,” said Mr. Laughlin. “They see how the Hurtado Scholars Program gives young men an opportunity to enjoy Jesuit formation at RHS. I am thankful that an alumnus and his wife from outside the area continue to be champions for young people in Kansas City. I hope our donors will help us to rise to the challenge, and I thank Pat and Susan for helping to lead in providing for others through their generous witness of faith.”

HURTADO CHALLENGE Match Ends July 23, 2020

“At the end of our life we shall be judged by charity."

Your generosity allows these students to learn, experience and feel the “Rockhurst difference”. Something beyond academic, athletic and social achievement. It’s an environment where young men learn to reach for the best in themselves and bring out the best in others.

Your donation will go directly toward providing opportunities for young men who desire a Jesuit education at Rockhurst.  Plus, your donation will go twice as far with the match!
