Friend to Friend is a non-profit 501c(3) organization started in 1988 that serves victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. As the only agency in Moore County meeting the needs of these victims, Friend to Friend plays a vital role, annually serving at least 485 people directly and fielding more than 1,000 calls on its crisis hotline. 2019 saw a 38.4% increase in clients served and a 42.9% increase in the demand for services related to human trafficking.
Friend to Friend’s existing 34-bed Serenity House is an all green, four-star energy efficient, cottage-style home that serves both adults and children. There is need, however, for more space to serve additional victims and provide more specialized victim-centered support, trauma-informed services, and emergency shelter.
In order to meet this need, Friend to Friend is requesting community support and funding to build a new 3-bedroom Recovery Cottage to serve several purposes: (1) provide a trauma-informed separate housing space for victims of human trafficking to aid in their recovery; (2) make it possible to isolate clients testing positive for contagious illnesses; and (3) provide a setting for Serenity House clients to receive confidential counseling away from group client activity.
